CAP ESSAY CONTEST
Attention High School Seniors
The Community Action Program (CAP) Region 8 is sponsoring their annual $1,200.00 scholarship essay contest at this time. This contest is open to all students scheduled to graduate from high school and planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student commencing the fall term of the year.

Essay Topics
You may choose a topic from the following:
- A biography of any of the great labor leaders of the past
- The history of any of the specific International Unions, i.e., United Auto Workers, Steel Workers, Machinist etc.
- Women’s role in labor’s past.
- Labor history of any specific era.
- The history of labor’s role in education.
- The history of labor’s role in politics/ legislature/ lobbying, etc.
A cover sheet containing the following must accompany all essays:
- Your name, social security number, address, telephone number, age, grade level and school, the name and address of the college or university where you plan to attend.
- A statement from your principal or guidance counselor attesting to the fact that you have either submitted an application, taken entrance exams or have sent transcripts.
Essay Guidelines
- Topic- chooses from the previously mentioned list.
- Paper- plain white-8 ½” x 11”
- Typewritten
- Length- no more than 4 pages
- Deadline is March 31, 2009
