White Shirt Day Friday 2.10.12

A plant wide meeting was held this morning to announce some long awaited good news.
DTNA Chief Operating Officer Rodger Neilson, UAW Region 8 Director Gary Casteel, North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, and Congresswoman Virginia Fox, were a few of the special guest today as the announcement of 1200 new jobs was made.
“The Cleveland truck plant will begin gearing up for a second shift. By March we expect production to increase by almost 10% and by October we will be turning out 85% more trucks then than we are today. That means there is going to be hiring, we are going to be hiring an additional 1072 people in the shop” Said Neilson.

We are beginning to see the results of our “Buy American Campaign”. As of June 29 our local office has sent out 1486 letters and post cards on behalf of the Local 3520 membership. These letters and post cards were sent to current and potential customers as well as the CEO’s of these companies. As a direct result of this campaign more customers are now requesting to have their trucks built at Cleveland! Watch this episode of American Truckers as they follow along while we build one of Gully Transportations newest trucks which was specifically requested to be built at Cleveland.

The NAFTA Trade Agreement has allowed manufacturing to leave the country. This cannot happen again, trade must become a fair agreement. Let your voice be heard. ********A special membership meeting has been called for this Saturday March 27 starting at 2pm at the union hall********

This meeting is very important to understand what is going on in bargaining and to show our bargaining committee that they have 100% of our support through a strike authorization vote.

The Assistant Director of UAW Heavy Truck Department and other International Representatives will be present at this meeting.

Make no mistake about it, we are engaged in an extremely difficult set of negotiations. We need ALL MEMBERS to attend this meeting to establish our position as a union in solidarity
